Brie Larson: a Photojournalist on “Skull Island”

The undying myth of King Kong, which first took Hollywood by storm in 1933, returns with Kong: Skull Island. The film is part of Legendary’s “MonsterVerse” plan to reboot the King Kong and Godzilla franchises with an eye to staging an eventual clash of the two screen titans. The first installment of the series was the Gareth Edwards-directed Godzilla (2014). Skull Island will be followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), also based on characters licensed from Japanese creators Toho Co. The two behemoths will share billing in Godzilla Vs. Kong (2020) inspired by the original 1962 Toho title. Skull Island’s stellar cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly and Brie Larson as photojournalist Mason Weaver. The HFPA’s Mirai Konishi and Janet Nepales caught up with the Golden Globe winner and asked her about going head-to-head with the “King.”
