CinemaCon Cam: Abrams and Pegg on “Star Trek Beyond”
CinemaCon was abuzz with the many tantalizing trailers paraded by the studios at the exhibitor’s confab – and one notable absence. One of the centerpieces of the Paramount presentation was a special award presented to Star Trek and Star Wars Czar J.J. Abrams, the man who has done the unthinkable by unifying the two main scifi mythologies under one roof (that of his Bad Robot shingle). That feat earned Abrams the CinemaCon “Showman of the Year” Award which was presented to him by Star Trek cast member and screenwriter Simon Pegg to the crowds’ enthusiastic applause. There was one thing however the audience was not able to cheer: any footage from the upcoming Summer Trek release. Nothing was screened – not even the December trailer- leaving many scratching their heads. Abrams said director Justin Lin, conspicuously absent in Vegas "was working hard right now on finishing" the film, which Abrams promised would be "the most thrilling Star Trek yet." Later Ramzi Malouki caught up with Abrams and Pegg. Here’s what else they had to say.
