Denis Villeneuve, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford on “Blade Runner 2049”

Ridley Scott’s initially underrated 1982 classic Blade Runner trailblazed a genre of noir sci-fi and gave new meaning to the “Director’s Cut”, as multiple edits of the film ensured decades of discussion. It’s no wonder that the long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049 comes with much expectation, as it answers (or perhaps not) the origin and fate of Harrison Ford’s seminal character, Deckard. French Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival) is tasked with bringing the storyline into an apocalyptic 2049 Los Angeles landscape. HFPA’s Katherine Tulich (with camera work by HFPA’s Mirai Konishi) spoke to Villeneuve and the film’s stars, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
