HFPA Humanitarian Award to Kailash Foundation Announced in Cannes

In what has become a Cannes festival tradition, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded its annual humanitarian grant on Sunday. The $500,000 grant will benefit the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, founded by Indian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to ending slavery, forced labor and violence against children. Mr. Satyarthi’s Foundation is also the subject of an upcoming documentary produced by Participant Media who partnered in Sunday’s announcement.

John Travolta kicked off the evening at Cannes’ Nikki Beach and Cannes Festival Jury President (and 3-time Golden Globe winner) Cate Blanchett presented the grant to KSCF on behalf of the HFPA. The money will go toward programs that ensure children are free, safe, healthy, in school, and are able to realize their potential.
