Inner City Arts

#BlackGirlMagic was created by The Inner-City Arts Repertory Dance Company in our Youth Performance Ensemble production of “Anywhere & Everywhere, In Our America,” directed by Marissa Herrera in the summer of 2019 at The Rosenthal Theater. In the words of dance company member, Ashlee Hodge, “#BlackGirlMagic means a lot to me. It shows us Black girls/women are united. We often hear about the struggles of Black males in society, but Black females struggle too. Sometimes we are brought down, but this piece lifts all of us up to show no one is better than the other.”

Founded in 1989, Inner-City Arts is a learning oasis in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Under the guidance of professional teaching artists, Inner-City Arts’ students are immersed in a safe and supportive environment where they may engage in a variety of visual and performing art forms in a studio setting.
