Based on Sarai Walker’s novel of the same title, Dietland is executive produced by Marti Noxon who also created UnReal, Code Black and began as writer and producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which earned Sarah Michelle Gellar a Golden Globe nomination). Like the novel, the series follows advice column ghost-writer (and 300 lb. weight loss surgery candidate) Plum Kettle (Joy Nash) on a journey of self-discovery which veers through an extravagant murder mystery involving a militant feminist underground as well as the antics of supremely narcissistic fashion magazine editor Kitty Montgomery (Julianna Margulies). Along the way the 10-part story couches a feminist critique of body shaming and the standards promoted by the beauty industry in darkly witty satire.
