Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia on “This Is Us”
Created by Dan Fogelman (writer of the Pixar Cars franchise, Disney’s Tangled and Crazy, Stupid, Love, as well as of Pitch, currently on Fox), This Is Us has been a breakout hit for NBC. The ensemble dramedy follows a time-jumping flashback structure to trace the story of a family: loving couple Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and their offspring Randall (Sterling K. Brown), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (Justin Hartley). The siblings navigate the perils and emotional vagaries of everyday life – at once mundane and profound – as we gradually discover how they came to be the people they are. It’s existential gravitas teased from smart melodrama and it has touched everyone’s entertainment nerve while also inducing reflections on parenting, compassion, destiny and, yes, the meaning of our lives. Listen as Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore talk to the HFPA's Jenny Cooney about how the show has affected them personally and why they believe it’s a “needed dose of goodness” in today’s world.
