Mark Ruffalo on “Dark Waters”
Dark Waters is a legal thriller film directed by Golden Globe nominee Todd Haynes. It is based on a 2016 article published in The New York Times Magazine by Nathaniel Rich. The story follows Robert Bilott, a quiet and gentle corporate defense attorney played by Mark Ruffalo. After a West Virginia farmer named Wilbur Tennant (Bill Camp) tells Bilott that his cows were killed by toxic chemicals in his local rivers, Bilott links a number of unexplained deaths to one of the world’s largest corporations, DuPont. Bilott decides to take Tennant’s case and sue DuPont. In the process, he risks everything – his future, his family, and his own life – to expose the truth. HFPA member Brent Simon sat down with Mark Ruffalo who talked about the story, his character and why he chose Todd Haynes to be the director.
