On Music: Hans Zimmer Wins Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award
On October 19t the annual Hollywood in Vienna gala honored film composer Hans Zimmer with the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award. Zimmer has scored more than 150 films including Dunkirk, Driving Miss Daisy, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator, The Thin Red Line, Rain Man, Inception and Thelma and Louise. He won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for best original score in 1995 for The Lion King and another Golden Globe Award for best original score in 2001 for Gladiator. We caught up with Zimmer after the ceremony – and the concert featuring his scores at the Vienna Concert Hall- and asked him about his career highlights, his working philosophy and the most unusual instrument he’s ever used.
