Rami Malek on the Dark Web of Mr. Robot

Call it kismet or serendipity, some shows seem to really tap into the zeitgeist and touch a nerve particularly relevant to the times. Mr. Robot certainly is of the moment: it debuted its story of hacking and covert cyber intrigue as the Snowden affair lifted the lid on the vast web of government surveillance, which was revealed to be more far reaching than anyone (well, almost no one) had suspected. The second season unspooled as the DNC servers were compromised by mysterious actors and American elections appeared to have been compromised to some unknown extent. And as the show gets ready to launch its third season in October the political landscape hardly can be said to have settled. The HFPA’s Jenny Cooney spoke to Rami Malek about the singular synchronicity and apparent prescience of the show.
