Beautiful Boy, directed by Belgium director Felix Van Groeningen and based on the best-selling memoirs of father and son David and Nic Sheff, is the unflinching portrayal of drug addiction and its devastating effects on family dynamics. Steve Carell plays David, a San Francisco journalist who has always had a close relationship with his son Nic (played by Timothée Chalamet). He’s bright, articulate and accepted into every college he applies for, but drug addiction throws his life into a downward spiral. His father tries desperately to save his son and restore his family.
