Susan Sarandon is a “Meddler”

Writer-director Lorene Scafaria has penned intimate and sweet comedies like Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which she also directed. She applies her sensibility for the funny and familiar nuances of our times to The Meddler in which Susan Sarandon plays Marnie, a middle aged, newly widowed mother of adult daughter Lori (Rose Byrne). The two New York transplants are adrift in Los Angeles, Marnie coming to grips with her bereavement and Lori immersed in a high-powered showbiz career that masks her loneliness. Marnie dotes over her daughter to a fault, and their, at times hilariously universal, relationship resonates with everyday truths. We talked to eight-time B Golden Globe nominee Sarandon about why this role resonated with her.
