Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman talk “Eagle”
Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards is certainly one of the most colorful sports figures in Olympic history. An amateur athlete who was dead set on becoming Britain’s first Olympic Ski Jump competitor and who managed, against daunting odds, to do just that at the 1988 Calgary Games. Edwards has come to symbolize the indomitable spirit of all underdogs, who will nevertheless compete at their best. His inspirational story is the basis for Fox’s Eddie the Eagle in which he is played by Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service). Hugh Jackman, Golden Globe winner (Les Misérables, 2013), nominee (Kate & Leopold, 2002) and all around standup bloke plays the (fictional) coach who first tries to dissuade and then helps Eddie soar. The HFPA’s Michele Manelis spoke to both of them about the film.
