Five years ago a cave-in at Chile’s Copiapò copper and gold mine trapped thirty-three miners more than 200 feet underground. Their ordeal – which lasted a record 69 days – culminated in an amazing rescue which riveted the world. Their story is told in The 33, a film for which Mexican director Patricia Riggen assembled an all-star cast including Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin and Lou Diamond Phillips. We spoke to Binoche, Santoro and Riggen about their heart-wrenching and uplifting film.
