In one of those uncanny Hollywood coincidences, the 1973 kidnapping of J. Paul Getty III in Italy has inspired both Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, which garnered Golden Globe nominations for Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer and Scott earlier this year, and is now a dramatic series directed by Danny Boyle for FX. The HFPA spoke to two-time Globe winners Donald Sutherland and Hilary Swank who told us how the story is compelling enough to have fascinated two great directors. The series, Swank told us, will afford a deeper dive into the characters and go beyond just the kidnapping to examine three years in the life of the fabulously rich and tragically unhappy Getty dynasty.
