Over the next few weeks we will bring you interviews with the directors of the five films nominated in this category. First up: Lukas Dhont whose feature Close tells the story of the friendship between two boys in their early teens. This film from Belgium is based on the director’s own experiences at school. It premiered in competition at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where Dhont shared the Grand Prix with Claire Denis. Close is his second feature.
