Berta Carricarte

Carricarte Melgarez is a Master of Art History, Doctor of Science in Art, and Professor of Film History at the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Havana. She is the author of the book "A la sombra del elogio. Approaches to Japanese cinema" (2012). She is a contributor to national and international print and digital publications. Her articles can be read in Cine Cubano, Revolución y Cultura, La Gaceta de Cuba, Palabra Nueva, Cubanow, AMPM Magazine, Lljournal, the Fipresci website, Altercine (IPS), Cartelera de Cine y Video, and Bisiesto, among others. In 2010 and 2022 she received the National Film Essay and Research Award, and in 2012 the Critics Award in the UNEAC CARACOL Competition. She has been a FIPRESCI jury member at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema (Havana) and at the REGARD Festival in Saguenay (Quebec). She has belonged to the Cuban Association of the Cinematographic Press since 1998, and to the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) since 2002. In 2021 she started her personal blog,, dedicated to the publication of articles about the audiovisual industry.
