Berta Carricarte

Berta Carricarte Melgarez was born in Havana, 1964. She has a master’s degree in art history and a PhD in art sciences and is a professor of film history. She is author of the book “In the Shadow of Praise. Approximations to Japanese Cinema” (2012). Her texts can be consulted in national and international publications such as Cine Cubano, Revolución y Cultura, La Gaceta de Cuba, Palabra Nueva, Cubanow, Magazine AMPM, Lljournal, Fipresci.org, Altercine (IPS), Cartelera de Cine y Video, Bisiesto, among others. In 2010 and 2022 she received the National Prize for essay and cinematographic research, and in 2012 the Critics Award, in the CARACOL Contest of the UNEAC. She has been a member of the FIPRESCI jury at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema (Havana) and at the REGARD Festival in Saguenay (Québec). She belongs to the Cuban Association of the Cinematographic Press. Since 2021 she has published her personal blog laquimeradelcine, dedicated to the publication of articles on the audiovisual industry. She participated as an international voter for the 81st Golden Globes Awards.
