Cecilia Barroso

Cecilia Barroso is a journalist and film critic from Brazil. In 2001, she founded the website Cenas de Cinema, where she works as editor-in-chief and film critic to this day. She has served on the selection committee for Curta Brasília, from CineSesc's Retrospectiva do Cinema Brasileiro, and was the international curator of the Filmaê-Festival de Cinema Móvel de Brasília. She participated in juries at festivals such as Festival de Brasília do Cinema Brasileiro, Festival Latino-Americano de Gramado, São Paulo International Film Festival, Panorama Internacional Coisa de Cinema, and Brasília Internacional Film Festival and was a debater and mediator in others such as Mostra de Tiradentes, Festival SESC Melhores Filmes, FeedDog, Panorama Coisa de Cinema, and Amazônia.Doc, in addition to several thematic exhibitions. As a film critic, she covers several international festivals annually, such as the Sundance Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, and others. She also teaches courses on film criticism, film history, and specific directors. She contributed to the Abraccine series “100 essential films” in books on documentary, animation, and short films, in addition to the publications “Mulheres atrás das câmeras: As cineastas brasileiras de 1930 a 2018” and “Trajetória da Crítica de Cinema no Brasil”. She is a member of the Brazilian Association of Film Critics-Abraccine, the Online Film Critcs Society-OFCS, and of the Elviras-Collective of Women Film Critics.
