Felix Lora
Félix Manuel Lora Robles born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he is a journalist, film critic, and researcher. He holds a degree in Social Communication from the UASD and has worked as a film journalist for media outlets such as El Nuevo Diario, Listín Diario, El Caribe, and CDN Canal 37. In 1996, he took a screenwriting and filmmaking workshop at the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.
He has written several stories, such as Sentado y con mujer, adapted into the short film ¿Buena jugada? (2002). He is the author of the documentary Un rollo en la arena (2005), presented at the Havana Film Festival. His book Encuadre de una identidad audiovisual (2007) analyzes the evolution of the Dominican audiovisual medium. He coordinated the first catalog of Dominican cinema (1923-2011) and in 2015 published Dominican Cinema in Focus: Catalog 1963-2014.
In 2020, he released Antología del largometraje dominicano 1963-2019 (Anthology of Dominican Feature Films 1963-2019) and Salas de cine en la República Dominicana (1900-2020) (Movie Theaters in the Dominican Republic (1900-2020)).
With the sponsorship of Editorial Funglode, he published El discurso temático en la producción cinematográfica dominicana (1963-2018) (Thematic Discourse in Dominican Film Production (1963-2018)). He has been the editor of texts on the history of Dominican cinema for anthologies such as Cinema Paradiso (2010) and Explorando el Cine Caribeño (2011), and coordinator for the Dominican Republic for the Diccionario del Cine Iberoamericano (2011).
He has been a jury member at international festivals such as Latitud Cero (Ecuador, 2013) and BAFICI (Argentina, 2014), and represented his country at the First Meeting of Latin American Documentary Filmmakers (Venezuela, 2008). He teaches film appreciation courses and coordinates the Audiovisual Communication and Cinematic Arts program at PUCMM, where he also earned a master’s degree in Educational Technology.
He writes reviews for the program El Despertador, the website acento.com.do, and his own website cinemadominicano.com. He is currently a member of Adopae and vice president of Adopresci.
