Leading up to the 54^th Image Awards Ceremony taking place live on Saturday, February 25, and hosted by Golden Globe winner Queen Latifah, the NAACP has been holding a range of week-long activities in Los Angeles, including four virtual awards nights celebrating the best in film, television, literature, animation, and music.

Being globally recognized as one of the most distinguished multicultural awards show, the NAACP Image Awards has been following its tradition of excellence, uplifting values that inspire equality, justice, and progressive change, and highlighting artists committed to that purpose, for over half of the century.

Monday was the night of music categories, with four-times Golden Globe nominee Beyoncé receiving Image Awards for Outstanding Female Artist, Soul / R&B Song for Cuff It and Album for Renaissance.

Outstanding Music Video / Visual Album award went to Lift Me Up for Golden Globe-nominated Rihanna and Golden Globe-nominated Black Panther won the Outstanding Soundtrack / Compilation Album award. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is also nominated for Outstanding Motion Picture, and Letitia Wright for Outstanding Actress.

Angela Bassett who won Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for this performance shares her nomination for Outstanding Actress with her co-stars Golden Globe nominee Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, while Tenoch Huerta is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Tuesday night was focused on variety, talk-show and reality TV series as well as literary work. Golden Globe winner Viola Davis received the Image Award for her Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction for her memoir Finding Me.

Davis was also nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her Golden Globe nominated performance in The Woman King. Sharing her nomination in the Entertainer of the Year category with Golden Globe winners Zendaya, Angela Bassett, Mary J. Blige, and Quinta Brunson.

Golden Globe winner Jennifer Hudson won the award for Outstanding Host in a Talk or News/ Information (Series or Special) – Individual or Ensemble for hosting The Jennifer Hudson Show.

The third virtual night on Wednesday honored short-form series, programs for children, and limited TV series.

Quinta Brunson who won her first Golden Globe for Best Television Actress – Musical / Comedy TV Series earlier this year, received the Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative for her Abbott Elementary sitcom.

Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever added the list of its Image Awards receiving the Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture award on Wednesday night.

Lastly, Thursday was centered on podcasts, writing, and directing. Golden Globe winning Abbott Elementary was recognized for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series awards given to Brittani Nichols.

Another Golden Globe winning TV show, Atlanta, brought Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series to Angela Barnes who directed The Homeliest Little Horse episode in Season 4.

Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series award was given out to Giancarlo Esposito who directed Axe and Grind episode in Season 6 of Golden Globe nominated TV series Better Call Saul.
