On Music: Reese Witherspoon, Who Wanted To Be Dolly Parton
Reese Witherspoon plays Rosita, a busy mom of many piglets, in the Golden Globe nominated animation movie Sing. She gets to sing songs by Katy Perry and Taylor Swift quite well. So we asked her how important has music been for her creativity.
“When I was young I wanted to be Dolly Parton” she says with a big smile. “I think music helps me to get into different roles and it motivates you, and it can transform how you feel about being in a particular place and it’s very transporting I think. When I finally saw Sing I realized how important music is to express how we feel, how so much of music is a fabric of our culture, that we share music, and it’s relatable across so many different ages and cultures. I think music is a great connector and a form of expression. And I usually sing all the time, I sing the same six songs around my kids. I sing a Peggy Lee song a lot, “Good Day” (she sings) “It’s a good day for shinin’ your shoes” – that’s a good one. ‘
