RiverBlue, an unprecedented documentary, made its mark in 2017 highlighting a powerful question: could fashion possibly save the planet? It portrayed some incredibly stunning, yet at times, shocking images that left us forever changed by the way we look at fashion, and fixated on the impact that the clothes we wear have on our climate and planet. Perhaps the most shocking element in the film is the exposure to the gloomy side of the consumer’s beloved blue jeans.

Amidst all the film events around the world, there was a special one that caught my attention. First, it had been mentioned to me by a friend in tech.

Deadline is reporting that the US House of Representatives Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party met with Hollywood executives last week to express their concerns about the studios’ business practices with China. Among the topics raised was the way movies were edited, and sometimes self-edited, to appease Chinese censors in order to get distribution in the territory, indirectly allowing China to control the content that is made for the worldwide market.

As any filmmaker can attest, recording quality audio on a movie or TV set can be quite complicated. The slightest exterior noise can not only cause multiple retakes to ensue but usually requires actors to come back during postproduction to re-record their lines to get a clean track.
