The  75h Golden Globe Awards received two Emmy nominations, for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is honored and congratulates our production partners NBC and dick clark productions, inc.

Golden Globe winner Mira Sorvino, star of the drama series Condor, talked to HFPA journalist Katherine Tulich about Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, how Hollywood and the world have changed since the #metoo movement started, and the United States’ current immigration policy, especially separating kids from their parents. Being an activist wasn’t a natural choice for Sorvino.

HFPA Grantee In 1992, in the wake of the LA riots, producer Dorothy Thompson created Streetlights, a nonprofit organization which today has a proven track record of bringing a skilled, ethnically diverse workforce to the behind-the-camera world of films, television, commercials and other media platforms. As a Job Training, Job Placement and Career Advancement organization, Streetlight’s mission is to create careers, not just jobs, for underrepresented young women and men from diverse backgrounds, while increasing diversity throughout the entertainment industry.

Today, his name is mostly forgotten, except maybe by a handful of hardcore cinephiles. So, who’s the real winner at the global box office this week? According to most reports out of the United States, it’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, which generated $76 million domestically and $85 million internationally for a global gross of $161 million. Numbers not comparable with Avengers: Infinity War or Black Panther earlier this year, but the 20th film by the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Paul Rudd as the titular superhero and Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp always had smaller ambitions.

Today, at 85, the filmmaker has just published his first book in French, Va où il est impossible d’aller, a captivating autobiography whose title, taken from writer Nikos Kazantzakis (Zorba the Greek, The Last Temptation of Christ) translates to Journey Where it is Impossible to Go.

Golden Globe winner Sandra Bullock plays Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) sister in Ocean’s 8  the film that is becoming an international hit. Her mother was a German opera singer and we asked her if music helped her also as an actress.

There is no question that the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF, June 29-July 7) preserves and nurtures the great tradition of Central and Eastern European Cinema. Even though film festivals can be seen as collective products of a culture, the choices of this one seem conscious, and all point to keeping the idea of film as a poetic art alive.
