There’s a seeming effortlessness with which Frances McDormand embodies her starring role in writer-director Martin McDonagh’s darkly comedic crime drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. But the six-time Golden Globe nominee – who was additionally honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1993 as part of an ensemble cast award for Robert Altman’s Short Cuts – wants to make clear that impression is actually something of an illusion.

To celebrate our 75th anniversary, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is launching a podcast series, HFPA In Conversation.   In this in-depth conversation format our journalists will  meet with protagonists in the world of entertainment, culture and business and talk about their work and experiences in film, TV, theater, music and business, as well as their upbringings and events that shaped their life.

Host Seth Meyers, HFPA president Meher Tatna, Dick Clark Productions CEO Allen Shapiro and producer Barry Adelman were on hand at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, for the official rollout of the red carpet. The tradition marks the start of the final countdown to the Golden Globes ceremony which will take place Sunday, January 7, 5-8 PM (Pacific) and broadcast live on NBC.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (Lady Bird)Already nominated for three Golden Globes at the age of just 23, Saoirse Ronan isn’t merely one of her generation’s most lauded actresses – she’s also amongst its most versatile, with her nominations spread out across all three film performance categories recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. First up was her nod for Actress in a Supporting Role, for 2007s Atonement, followed by Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for 2015s Brooklyn, and, now, Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for this past year’s Lady Bird.

The HFPA will partner with Facebook for “The HFPA Presents: Globes Red Carpet Live,” the official red carpet pre-show for the “75th Annual Golden Globe® Awards. ” This new partnership expands the reach of the Golden Globes across social media and brings the global community closer than ever to Hollywood’s Party of the Year™.

After getting nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Live Action Short Film category in 2013 for Henry, Montreal film maker Yan England does not disappoint with his feature film debut, 1:54. The film made a splash in French-speaking Canada, generating a wide debate in society about its main theme, bullying in schools and how to prevent it.

The second decade of the new century brings dramatic changes to the industry: international markets become leaders in ticket sales, super hero, horror and action franchises are the studios’ bread-and-butter, and creative talent migrates in droves to the new mobile and home entertainment platforms, the new independent cinema of the 2010s. Forty years after the New Hollywood revolution, a new generation of filmmakers re-focuses cinema, exploring what it means to be human in the 21st century and how to give voices to the themes of inclusiveness and diversity.
