It was an ocean of black on a golden afternoon: if not all, almost all women – from stars and nominees to crews working backstage- wore black, in support of the #metoo #timesup movement against harassment, abuse, and violence against women. HFPA president Meher Tatna wore scarlet red – and a very visible pin with the #timesup logo – and followed up on Seth Meyer’s scathing opening with simple and powerful words: “Time’s up for harassment, abuse, and discrimination.

Host Seth Meyers, HFPA president Meher Tatna, Dick Clark Productions CEO Allen Shapiro and producer Barry Adelman were on hand at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, for the official rollout of the red carpet. The tradition marks the start of the final countdown to the Golden Globes ceremony which will take place Sunday, January 7, 5-8 PM (Pacific) and broadcast live on NBC.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (Lady Bird)Already nominated for three Golden Globes at the age of just 23, Saoirse Ronan isn’t merely one of her generation’s most lauded actresses – she’s also amongst its most versatile, with her nominations spread out across all three film performance categories recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. First up was her nod for Actress in a Supporting Role, for 2007s Atonement, followed by Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for 2015s Brooklyn, and, now, Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for this past year’s Lady Bird.
