The 2019 edition of SXSW left no doubt in anyone’s mind that it has a rightful place among the major festivals. It has become a leader in combining film, music, art, keynote speakers, discussions and forums in one nice ten-day package.

As far as festivals in big cities go, SXSW is as good as it gets. Unlike Berlin, where sliding on icy sidewalks from screening to press conference to party to another screening in the dead of winter, or Rome where the event locations are so spread out that it might take an hour and a half to get there on public transportation, Austin is an easy place to navigate and a pleasant one for attendees.

For over 40 years the HFPA has recorded famous and celebrated actresses, actors and filmmakers. The world's largest collection of its kind - over 10,000  items- is now in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Margaret Herrick Library.

Norwegian actor Rune Temte might play a smaller role as Bron-Char in Captain Marvel, but it feels like a huge accomplishment. When he signed up to become part of the Marvel universe, he did it alongside Golden Globe and Oscar-winner Brie Larson, Samuel L.

Katherine Helmond, who was nominated three times for a Golden Globe and won it twice, died at age 89. Both awards were for playing roles that were far removed from Helmond's life and character.

Golden Globe-nominated Cuban-American actor Andy García sat down with HFPA journalist Silvia Bizio in Los Angeles and talked about his long career from 8 Million Ways to Die to his recent movie The Mule.   Working with Clint Eastwood was a dream come true for him.

French actor Gérard Depardieu receives the Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy Golden Globe for Green Card, directed by Peter Weir, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, January 19, 1991.   Backstage he playfully lets Andie MacDowell hold the statuette since she was nominated for Best Actress for the same film.

Theatergoers around the world lined up en masse to see Captain Marvel and propelled the Brie Larson led action extravaganza to a $455 million global debut. Larson stars as the title character, an ex-Air Force pilot who gained superpowers and was adopted by alien commandos after crashing her experimental jet in outer space.

The first Film Restoration Summit convened by the HFPA was held on March 9  at the historic Theater at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The building erected by United Artists founders Charles Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks and specifically its flagship theater, with its ornate a baroque and Hollywood Spanish revival decorations, could not have been more appropriate for a discussion about the crisis facing film heritage around the world.
