One week after receiving a standing ovation at its Eccles Theater premiere, Dee Rees' Mudbound was still available for purchase, which is one of the biggest surprises of this year's Sundance Film Festival. Anybody who was at that screening left convinced that it was only a matter of hours until the bleak story of love, friendship and misery would be sold for big money to a U.

It was Laia Costa’s first time in Sundance but, if one is to judge from her career trajectory so far, it probably won’t be her last. That’s because the Catalan actress has become one of the biggest new promises of Hollywood.

What did mom say? When it’s cold outside – wear a hat! This year’s Sundance attendees certainly took the advice to heart. New trend: the beret is back.

You see, Beatriz is a healthcare worker, a masseuse and a healer.

Golden Globe nominee  and, of course, ex-James Bond Pierce Brosnan can be seen in the upcoming AMC miniseries The Son, a western drama based on the  book by Philipp Meyer. Brosnan replaced another Golden Globe nominee, Sam Neill, in the role of Eli McCullough, the patriarch of a ranching dynasty in Texas.

It came as little surprise to those who were at the film’s Monday premiere at the Eccles that Patti Cake$ was bought by Fox Searchlight on Tuesday for a reported $10. 5 million price tag.

Things got rough in Park City this year: first the cyber attack (currently being investigated by the FBI), then a power outage that led to several screenings being cancelled, and now a major snowstorm. Sundancers are thinking twice before leaving their hotels and condos for post-sunset parties - is it worth it to face temperatures in the low 20s and walk through ice and sludge? There is, however, another beige carpet, and a rather warm one: the path leading to premieres at the Eccles.

Woody Harrelson stars as the title character, a curmudgeonly loner in a dark comedy based on a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes of Ghost World fame. If the terms graphic novel and comedy, used in the same sentence, baffle you, you are not alone.

In recent years mini concerts and intimate performances have increased during the festival -  even Sting went onstage at a tiny venue on Main Street last year. Music has always played a huge part in the festival - in the past few years some of the festival’s most talked-about films have been by or about musicians.
