Israeli director Nadav Lapid’s The Kindergaten Teacher won the International New Talent Award at the 17th Taipei Film Festival. The HFPA's Barbara Gasser met with the emerging director at the festival to discuss cinema, poetry and the power of recognition.

The 2015 Primetime Emmy nominees were announced today and, for the sixth year in a row, the Golden Globes Awards presentation was among them with two kudos: Outstanding Special Class Program and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. Game of Thrones led the nominations with 24 entries including Drama Series, making HBO once again the leader of the pack, with 126 nominations.

For the second year running the HFPA's Golden Globe awards show was  nominated for an Emmy. The show, which was aired on January 11 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and produced by the HFPA and dick clark productions.

While Taiwan becomes a hot location for big-budget project, Taipei’s local film festival aims at new and emerging talent from Asia and beyond. With Martin Scorsese filming his upcoming movie Silence, and Luc Besson flying Scarlett Johansson across the Pacific Ocean for Lucy, Taipei is quickly becoming one of the hot new international movie locations.

It was only a year ago that the domestic box office numbers kept going down and pundits were seriously talking of the theatrical experience turning into something reserved for major franchises and for the new crowds of ticket-buyers in China and other territories. But as 2015 has entered into its second half, and after major hits such as Furious 7, Avengers: The Age of Ultron, Pitch Perfect 2 and Jurassic World, we can now safely say that those reports about the imminent demise of the traditional theater were, as Mark Twain would say, greatly exaggerated.
