This weekend’s newcomers had a tough time claiming their places on one of the most lukewarm blocks of an already tepid summer. The top performer among this dainty crop of fresh pictures was Newline and Warner Bros.

We mourn the passing of Richard Attenborough. He was a classically trained theater and film actor, a director and producer, a humanitarian, an art collector, the president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and a lifelong Chelsea supporter.

He was the glory of Mexican film and created a style of humor that no one has been able to replicate. Although it has been 32 years since the release of El barrendero, the last of the 38 films in which he starred in Mexico, his movies still leave Sony millions annually in royalties.

A week ahead of the Primetime Emmy Awards, as customary the Creative Arts Emmys were awarded. The awards are given to technical and behind-the-scenes personnel such as art directors, costume designers and editors, although guest actors and some writers are also included.

The ladies weren’t the only ones getting all gussied up for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Dinner Banquet last night, as a slew of masculine stars showed up at the Beverly Hilton Hotel ready to have a good time. As the HFPA handed out almost $2 million in grant checks to entertainment-related charities, Jason Segel, Andy Samberg and Morgan Freeman celebrated the evening in their dark dapper suits.

It was an incredible evening of giving, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed out almost $2 million in charitable donations at their annual Grants Dinner Banquet last night. And of course, there were plenty of beautiful celebrity ladies in designer ensembles gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
