Two time Golden Globe winner Maximilian Schell has died at the age of 83. The Austrian actor, who died at a clinic in Innsbruck, was nominated four times and won twice, for best actor in the 1961 movie Judgement at Nuremberg and in 1963 for best supporting actor as Lenin in the TV miniseries Stalin.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has always believed that preserving the world’s film heritage is a cultural mission of vital importance and film restoration efforts have always been a primary beneficiary of HFPA grants. That mission continued this year with a donation of $350,000 to the Film Foundation, which was accepted at the HFPA’s Installation and Grants lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel by Steven Spielberg.

Marilyn Monroe received her first Golden Globe in a ceremony at the Club Del Mar, Santa Monica California, in 1952, when she was 25 years old. More accurately it was the Henrietta award, an almost two foot tall statuette of a woman, but named after a man, Henry Gris, one of the first presidents of the Foreign Press Association of Hollywood, a predecessor of the HFPA.

Their impact on American popular music is undeniable and The Beatles were honored with a star-studded tribute on Monday night (January 27). “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles” took over the Los Angeles Convention Center as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr teamed up with a plethora of today’s top musicians for a special taping of a show that will air on CBS February 9 – 50 years to the day McCartney, Starr and the late John Lennon and George Harrison debuted on the Ed Sullivan show.

LL Cool J once again hosted this year's Grammy Awards, which aired on CBS. Music's royalty, Jay Z and Beyonce, opened the show with a hot performance.

The most infamous dustup occurred 1996 in the Italian restaurant Mercato Mediterraneo when Harvey Weinstein allegedly pushed Fine Line’s Jonathan Taplin up against a wall because he was outbid on the distribution rights to Scott Hick’s schizophrenia drama Shine.

Every year, tens of thousands of filmmakers, film lovers, buyers, executives and party goers flock to Park City in Utah, braving the subzero temperature, to attend the Sundance Film Festival, which has become the epicentre of independent cinema since it was founded 30 years ago by Robert Redford in order to give a platform for unknown filmmakers to show and promote their movies. In its early years the festival was small and intimate.

It's fade to black in Park City and time to roll the credits. Sundance 30 concluded with an awards ceremony that doled out prizes to dozens of films in the competition categories.
