Louis Gossett Jr. (born in Brooklyn, New York, May 27, 1936; died March 28, 2024 in Santa Monica CA) acted in the play A Raisin in the Sun (1959) and its 1961 film adaptation, both starring Sidney Poitier, he acted on television in the miniseries Roots (1977) from the 1976 novel by Alex Hailey, Sadat (1983), The Josephine Baker Story (1991) with Lynn Whitfield, The Good Fight (2017).
