75th Golden Globes Anniversary

Set in the microcosm of a tiny mountain village, White Sun, directed by Deepak Rauniyar, illustrates various issues still dividing Nepal after the end of the civil war, the bloody armed conflict between government forces and Maoist rebels (1996-2006) that ended the monarchy and established a People’s Republic. When the elderly chairman of a small village suddenly dies, his daughter-in-law needs help to move the body out of the house, since women are not allowed to touch the dead.

Summer 1993 (Estiu 1993) is the only entry from Spain in this year’s Golden Globes and it comes with the blessings of the last Berlin International Film Festival. At the Berlinale the Carla Simon feature debut won the Best First Feature award.

Newton has broken attendance records for an independent and non-Bollywood film at the box office. Directed by Amit Masurkar -who also wrote the screenplay - Newton  centers on Newton Kumar, a rookie government clerk who is sent off to a village in the jungles of Chhattisgarh to oversee and set up the election process, not an easy task as the place is under the control of the Naxalysists (Communists).

Each year the Hollywood Foreign Press Association bestows the Golden Globe Award in the Foreign Language category. To qualify, a film must be a motion picture drama, musical or comedy with at least 51% of the dialogue spoken in a non-English language.

The tradition started in 1962 when the Golden Globes reached a maturity of sorts- all of 18 years old! In an appropriate celebration of both youth and legacy, two up and coming actresses were chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to assist with the task of delivering awards at the 1963 Golden Globe ceremony. Eva Six, a Hungarian-born actress who starred in a couple of beach party movies (a hot trend at the time), and Donna Douglas, star of the popular TV series The Beverly Hillbillies, were the first Miss Golden Globes.

Ayla is an amazing juxtaposition between the best and worst of mankind. It is the story of unwavering love with the backdrop of all the evil of war, a true story that was also a documentary.

Beyond Brotherhood is written and directed by Arianne Benedetti from her 2002 script, published in 2007 as a best selling novel. After directing commercials, short films and a TV sitcom, Beyond Brotherhood is her feature-film debut, shot in the old quarter of Panama City and in Playa Blanca.

HFPA president announced that Simone Garcia Johnson was selected as the first-ever Golden Globe Ambassador.
