79th Golden Globe Awards [2022] Ceremony

Multi Golden Globe-winner Steven Spielberg takes on a genre he has never tackled before in his long career – the musical, and at 75 he conveys an energy and enthusiasm rare to see on the screen today. Furthermore, his is not a film adaptation of just any musical.

In tick, tick… Boom!, Andrew Garfield tackles his first major musical role by stepping into the shoes of the acclaimed American composer and playwright Jonathan Larson. The Netflix movie is based on the autobiographical musical by Larson, who also wrote the award-winning musical Rent, and it serves as the feature directorial debut of Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Will Smith offered some insight on Muhammad Ali – having spent time with the boxing champion during the shooting of Ali, directed by Michael Mann – when he spoke to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press on the set in Miami in 2001, then in Los Angeles a few weeks before the film’s release. “Three or four days out of the month, Ali will come and hang out on the set, and he seems to be very happy up to this point.

Kenneth Branagh’s wistful homage to his childhood in Northern Ireland arrives on the big screen in the form of the semi-autobiographical movie, Belfast. Written and directed by Branagh, the story chronicles the life of a working-class family in the late 1960s in a narrative set against the backdrop of social tumult during the Northern Ireland Conflict.

HFPA Grantee A Place Called Home provides a safe, nurturing environment with proven programs in arts, education and wellness for the young people in South Central Los Angeles to help them. "Without You" music and video was produced by the members of APCH and is described by them as "a beautiful piece about the impact of absent fathers in the life of these young people.

For our 2021 Golden Globes pre-show, the young spoken word artists of Get Lit - Words Ignite composed this original poem embodying the creative spirit and aspirational power of young creators that make us simply stop.

Get Lit: Words Ignite fuses classic and spoken word poetry to increase teen literacy on the page and in visual media. We cultivate enthusiastic learners emboldened to inspire social consciousness in diverse communities.

This is Me is a collective performance based on the song by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, featuring young creators supported by the HFPA. It was created by Ayo Awosika and Melissa Axel, directed by Samuel Curtis and edited by Peter Davis and featured on the "Empowering the Next Generation" specially produced by Pala Abou Jaoude, Scott Orlin and Luca Celada.

Las Fotos Project is a non-profit organization with a mission to elevate the voices of teenage girls from communities of color through photography and mentoring, empowering them to channel their creativity for the benefit of themselves, their community, and future careers. When HFPA reached out to KITS about creating an introduction video for the organization, we realized it was an opportunity for our youth to produce a video for a client while utilizing the filmmaking skills they learned from our programs. After conceptualizing what the promo video would look like, five (5) of our youth filmmakers wrote the promo video script.
