The 76th annual Cannes film festival red carpet popped with stars and style.   Jennifer Lawrence attended the Bread And Roses photocall as a producer in a fresh loose sheath with intricate back detail.

There’s a scene in HBO’s Irma Vep in which Alicia Vikander slinks across the screen like a liquid shadow, elongating and diminishing against walls and corners. She’s dressed in a body-hugging silky-velvet suit, that an earlier scene explains is chosen for the manner in which the light catches the material  – “more sensual than leather,” is the reasoning.

Twice Golden Globe nominee Alicia Vikander will surprise her fans in her upcoming movie, Tomb Raider. Vikander trained like an Olympian athlete to become the iconic action heroine, but music is always an inspiration for her roles.

Sweden’s Gothenburg Film Festival, established in 1979, is the leading film festival in Nordic countries. Between the end of January and the beginning of February it features more than 450 films from some 80 countries and sells around 130 000 tickets to the public.

If Switzerland would like to change the fact that it is consistently mistaken for Sweden in the rest of the world, the Zurich Film Festival certainly did not help matters: after the 13th edition opened with Borg vs McEnroe, which features one of tennis’ greatest players from Sweden, the next full festival day belonged to Swedish duo Alicia Vikander and director Lisa Langseth and their film Euphoria. It’s their third film together after Pure (2010) and Hotel (2013) but it’s the first time the Golden Globe-nominated actress is also a producer.

It’s that time of year. Major movies are going to be released and that means premieres.

The muting of the red carpet continued this weekend, as the 2016-2017 awards season came to a close. Gold and silver shimmered; black, white and red proved they are classics.

What is the proper word? Falicia? Vibender? Does it matter? On the second day on the Lido the Light was on the red carpet, and the fans found it very good. Golden Globe nominees Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender - who met and became an item on the set of Derek Cianfrance's The Light Between Oceans - were everywhere as their film screened in competition- followed closely by Golden Globe winner Amy Adams and Golden Globe nominee Jeremy Renner, stars of Denis Villeneuve's Arrival, and Lido veteran Wim Wenders, his excellent sneaker collection and his The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez.

It was The Light Between Ocean’s turn to take its festival bow at the Lido’s stately Palazzo del Cinema, and the bright lights of the carpet contrasted sharply with the somber mood of M. L Stedman’s story adapted by Derek Cianfrance into his third feature (after Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines).
