Comic-Con International: San Diego 2017

A new franchise made its debut at Comic-Con and it comes with the Marvel logo attached to it. For the fans of the comic named Inhumans, there's not much to explain but for the ones with less knowledge about that world, former Game of Thrones villain Iwan Rheon and the star of Hell on Wheels, Anson Mount, stopped by the HFPA lounge at Comic-Con to give us some basic tips: 'I play Black Bolt', Mount said.

He has a big smile for every fan that stops him to ask for a picture and never seems tired of the duties of fame. A trained dancer and singer who started his career in Glee playing Sebastian Smythe, Grant Gustin has achieved stardom in the world of super heroes, as Barry Allen, better known as The Flash, first in Arrow and later in his own show.

Hall H reveals the stars of next Summer’s blockbusters – and while they play super heroes on the big screen, they excelled in fashion encompassing trends started last year at the HFPA/ InStyle party, showcasing heritage and hinting at new looks that could become the trends of tomorrow.

Stephen Amell must be the most relaxed TV super-hero in the stellar gathering of colleagues at Comic-Con.   He's a veteran of the event and with five seasons of Arrow behind him,  he is very familiar with the reactions of fans from all over the world: “In China, it was a little weird', he told us.

Before stepping inside the Marvel multiverse as, respectively, The Punisher/Frank Castle and Karen Page, Jon Bernthal and Deborah Ann Woll had already seared other illustrious TV characters into our minds: The Walking Dead's Shane and True Blood's Jessica. Now both are front and center in a trio of high-profile Marvel series:  Daredevil, now in its third season, and the new The Punisher and The Defenders.

Patience can be a virtue and for some comic book fans, who waited more than 50 years to see some of their heroes finally get their cinematic due, the extra 15-minute delay to start the Marvel panel at Comic-Con 2017 seemed well worth the wait. As the lights dimmed and the crowd of more than 6,000 let their enthusiasm fly, the giant Hall H screen filled with the images of Paul Rudd and Michael Peña.

A big TV star, Sarah Wayne Calles was at Comic-Con this year with Colony – but her track through TVland goes far beyond - she is still remembered for the first three seasons of The Walking Dead, and this year she returned to the role of Dr. Sarah Tancredi in Prison Break: Resurrection.

So Comic-Con isn’t about fashion. But it teaches fashion lessons.

And on Day Three, more heroes came forth: Warner Bros. blew the roof off Hall H with a loaded presentation that included Blade Runner 2049, Aquaman, Ready Player One and Justice League.

One of the Comic-Con surprises this year was an unscheduled advanced screening of the long anticipated pilot for Netflix’s The Defenders. For the few uninitiated out there, that is the “reunion” series based on Marvels’ superhero team that reunites Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Danny Rand) and Daredevil (Charlie Cox).
