With 17 million mesmerized Americans watching Sunday’s season 7 debut, The Walking Dead continue to post scary numbers – close to its all time high rating and worthy of the biggest show on television. Credit the mammoth cliffhanger with which the show’s writers tormented fans in the months since the end of Season 6: who would Neegan dispatch? The latest addition to the show’s cast of characters, played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, is, as Andrew Lincoln told us, a “charismatic, brilliant, brutal psychotic” and that may be why it’s so hard to avert your eyes from his consummate cruelty.

Rebecca Hall on Christine

The remarkable and tragic story of Christine Chubbuck was center stage at the last Sundance Film Festival with both a documentary and a feature devoted to the 1970s Florida newscaster who took her own life on live television. The latter, directed by Antonio Campos, features Rebecca Hall in the title role and is an examination of Chubbuck’s depression on the backdrop of the societal and professional pressures faced by women both then and, as current events so clearly show, in today’s world.

“Movies were the only topic of conversation at the dinner table”, Jonás Cuaron recalled to the HFPA about growing up in a family with his dad Alfonso, Golden Globe winning director of Gravity (2013) and his uncle Carlos producer of films like Y Tu Mamá Tambien and Rudo y Cursi. His own feature film debut, Desierto, is a taut chase thriller set in the Southwest desert where a deranged rancher (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hunts down a hapless group of undocumented migrants, led by Gael García Bernal, attempting to cross into the U.
