Fear the Walking Dead

In a little more than ten years Robert Kirkman has gone from cult figure in the indie comics scene to superstar of the horror fantasy nerd-dom. The latter status achieved of course as author of AMC’s Golden Globe nominated (and cable ratings winner) The Walking Dead.

As Walking Dead fans anxiously wait to learn the fate of their heroes after the latest gut-wrenching cliffhanger, the companion series, Fear of the Walking Dead returns to the air with season “2B” featuring the continuing saga of the West Coast survivors. After the prologue which detailed the onset of the Walker plague Madison, Travis, Nick and Alicia evacuated Los Angeles and had a series of (mis)adventures at sea.

The rites of summer: as the country boils and ocean breezes cool the shores of San Diego, fanboys and fangirls, cosplayers, trekkers and assorted enthusiasts of all things sci-fi, fantasy,horror, comix or pop/geek culture descend upon the city's Convention Center for an immersive weekend of comraderie and celebration. Gone are the days of 1970, when a small group of friends banded together to create what was, at the time, just a comic-book convention (the first in Southern California).

Those who’ve seen the latest episodes of Fear the Walking Dead were surely shocked by the appearance of Celia, the 50-something year old woman who takes Travis (Cliff Curtis), Madison (Kim Dickens), and the entire group of survivors into the luxurious ranch owned by Thomas Abigail (Dougray Scott) in Mexico.   Celia can act as either an adorable mother, a witty business woman, or even a ruthless killer; and although it seems that her role in the series concluded along with the mid-season finale, it is not one that will be easily forgotten.
