Golden Globes Voting Body Now Totals 310 Voters and Reflects 58% Diversity Today, the Golden Globes® announced a heavily expanded voting body for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards with the addition of 215 international voters. Combined with the current 95 members, there are now a total of 310 voters, surpassing a pledge to increase the size and diversity of the voting body.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) began supporting journalism and freedom of the press in 2021. Since then, more than 20 journalistic organizations and institutions have been added to the pool of more than 90 grantees.

HFPA Also Talks to Festival Directors   The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) presented the Golden Globe commemorative plaque to Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival (Cartagena International Film Festival), or FICCI as the festival is popularly known, which was received by Lina Rodriguez, the festival’s general director. The presentation by HFPA Board Member Barbara Gasser was held on the morning of March 28, the closing day of the 62nd edition of the festival at the old FICCI on Calle de Tejadillo at the Old City in Cartagena, Colombia.

FilmAid’s Director Gita Saedi Kiely embodies the organization’s mission to give a public voice to vulnerable communities around the world through the power of film, and to “democratize who gets to tell their story”. She grew up in Chicago in a small Persian-American community with parents from Teheran who met in the USA as university students in the 1960s.

For five years the HFPA Global Residency program has been bringing emerging filmmakers from around the world to Hollywood and fulfilling the HFPA’s mission as ambassadors between the American film industry and world cinema by partnering with some of the world’s premiere film festivals. This year once again the Residency endeavored to give participating fellows a first-hand glimpse of American independent filmmaking.

As part of the 2023 HFPA Residency program, participating film makers introduced their films at a Los Angeles screening, followed by a Q&A moderated by an HFPA journalist.   LA-based Azeri actor/director Tahmina Raffaella screened Banu, an affecting chronicle of a woman’s quest to obtain a divorce and custody of her son, along with a personal emancipation from an abusive marriage, in a lonely struggle against the patriarchal mores that stack the game against her.
