Sex and the City and Younger creator Darren Star is back with another female-centric comedy, Emily in Paris which stars Lily Collins as a young confident Chicago marketing executive who is hired to provide her perspective at a marketing firm in Paris. Of course, her French counterparts are not the least impressed by what they see as her brash upfront ideas, so this particular American in Paris has to navigate her way in a new city and new culture.

Starring and executive produced by Ethan Hawke, The Good Lord Bird, tells the story of controversial abolitionist John Brown told through the eyes of Henry "Little Onion" Shackleford (played by Joshua Caleb Johnson) a newly freed teenager who joins him on a holy crusade to end slavery. The seven-episode series is based on the National Book Award-winning novel by James McBride.

Before she became a Golden Globe-winning actress, Hilary Swank once dreamed of being an astronaut. She finally gets her wish, at least in fiction, by playing an astronaut in the upcoming Netflix drama series, Away.

The Capture premiering on Peacock, NBCUniversal's new streaming service, is a six-part surveillance thriller starring Callum Turner as British soldier Shaun Emery whose conviction for murder is overturned until damning CCTV footage comes to light and he must fight for his freedom again. Holliday Grainger plays DI Rachel Carey who is assigned to investigate his case and quickly learns that truth is all a matter of perspective.

The new comedy Palm Springs stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as wedding guests stuck in a perennial time loop. While déja-vu is not new as a plot device (think Groundhog Day) Palm Springs' story of its central characters living the same day over and over again has perhaps unwittingly acquired layered meaning in these Covid times.

The Eurovision Song Contest the beloved, excessive, outlandish song contest held annually since 1956 ( with the exception of this year's cancelation due to Covid-19) and best known as the launchpad for ABBA's worldwide success, is ripe fodder for Will Ferrell's new Netflix comedy, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga where Ferrell plays the buffoonish Lars Erickssong, a mediocre Icelandic singer who obsesses about winning Eurovision with his singing partner Sigrit (Rachel McAdams) and yearns to prove his worth to his sour, overbearing father (played by Pierce Brosnan).  With approval from the organizers of Eurovision, the movie directed by Wedding Crashers’ David Dobkin, may lampoon the contest but still manages to pay homage to its odd spectacle.

Standup comedian Ramy Youssef's autobiographical inspired Hulu series Ramy, garnered critical acclaim and a Golden Globe for Youssef for Best Actor - Television Series Musical or Comedy for its first season.   With the debut of its second season, Ramy continues his struggles for enlightenment in his New Jersey neighborhood, caught between his Muslim community and his youthful desires.
