An anime Japanese movie, One Piece Film: Red, dominated the Italian theatrical box office for the week ending November 6, 2022.   Italian La stranezza (Strangeness) by Roberto Andó, top film the previous week, had to bow to animation and step down to the second place.

The horror movie Smile did just that in the U. S.

Waiting for its long-awaited sequel – opening in December all over the world, Italy included -  James Cameron's 2009 Avatar is making once again splashes at the box office in its re-release in theaters: grossing $1,658. 061 (same in Euros) on its second week of play, the 3D fantasy/sci-fi juggernaut is again at the top of Italian box-office chart, according to Cinetel's data: Avatar has so far grossed over $2 million since its release, bringing over a monthlong record of 250,000 moviegoers to the Bel Paese theaters.

The first movies screened in Venice have arrived in theaters, and finally, an Italian feature is taking back the stage and the box office. Il signore delle formiche, the new motion picture by acclaimed Italian director Gianni Amelio, out on September 8, immediately took fourth place in the top ten chart.

As the Venice Film Festival, now in its 90th year since its founding and its 79th installment, heads into its conclusion amidst films and many celebrities, theaters have been experiencing a rather unimpressive week. The first weekend of September, with cities once again bustling with students and workers, saw a slight drop in revenue compared to last week (-8 percent), although compared to 2021, a +7 percent holds steady.

Despicable yet adorable, the Minions came to rescue Italy's box office. After sluggish weeks, audiences flocked back to theaters for the animated new entry Minions 2 - The Rise of Gru.
