The LA Press Club journalism awards are given each year for excellence in reporting. In the ceremony at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles Sunday the Daniel Pearl Prize for Courage and Integrity in Journalism will also be awarded to the French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo.

The Hollywood Foreign Press marks the passing of a unique musical talent, and two-time Golden Globe honoree. In George Miller’s supercharged dystopian action epic Tom Hardy takes over Road Warrior duties from Mel Gibson but the most brilliant idea may have been pairing him with Charlize Theron’s fierce Imperator Furiosa. The two lone warriors form what is surely the most fearsome man/woman team to ever tear up a desert road.

The HFPA announced a $2 million endowment to the Los Angeles City College Foundation for the college’s Cinema and Television Department. This is the largest donation ever awarded by the Associations, which over the years, has given grants totaling more than $20 million to entertainment related charities and scholarship programs.

We mourn the passing of Robin Williams who died on August 11 in his home in Northern California. He was 63.
