The admiration Laura Dern elicits is indisputable. She is part of a generation of actresses whose impact will be felt for decades to come – and she has a collection of film and television awards to prove it.

“I call him the actor whisperer,” Kathy Bates said about Clint Eastwood, her director in Richard Jewell. The film is a dramatization of the true-to-life story of an American security guard who saved hundreds of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics.

Tom Hanks is no stranger to winning Golden Globes. He’s been nominated nine times, winning three, and now he’s a nominee for playing Mr.

It may seem counterintuitive in this hyper-saturated modern-day celebrity landscape, but it sometimes takes a break to most remind an audience of what they love about a popular performer. Such certainly seems the case with Renée Zellweger, who in 2010 stepped off the constant merry-go-round of back-to-back productions and put a six-year pause on her acting career, to reflect and regroup.

“It’s not a biopic,” Eddie Murphy stressed about Dolemite Is My Name, in which he plays Rudy Ray Moore, an actor-comedian who created the Dolemite character in movies and records in the 1970s. “This movie is not about Rudy Ray Moore’s life, where he was from and where he was born,” added Eddie, whose portrayal of the man nicknamed as “the Godfather of Rap” earned him the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy nomination for the 77th Golden Globes.

“It is always difficult to play somebody who exists,” Antonio Banderas said about playing a filmmaker inspired by Pedro Almodóvar in Pain and Glory. Almodóvar himself directed the film - titled Dolor y gloria in Spanish- about a filmmaker who reflects on the choices he has made in life and his series of re-encounters with the people in his past – a fictionalized autobiographical story which the director defines as “auto-fiction.
