As Hollywood continues to enjoy the current ‘Golden Age’ of television, let’s take time out to acknowledge Norman Lear, the man largely responsible for TV’s original Golden Age, as he turns 100-years-old on July 27!At one point in the ‘70s, Lear had seven shows in the Top Ten ratings – All in the Family (1968-79), Good Times (1974-79), Maude (1972-78), The Jeffersons (1975-85), Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976-77), Sanford and Son (1972-77) and One Day at a Time (1975-84). Over 120 million people were watching his content on a weekly basis and not only were his shows popular, but Lear also used the opportunity to push boundaries and give voice to underrepresented parts of society long before it was a popular cause taken on by the rest of Hollywood.

TV legend Norman Lear has written, produced, created, or developed TV Shows for over 70 years. This Sunday, at the 78th Golden Globes, he will be awarded the Carol Burnett Award, for outstanding contributions to television on and off the screen.

If ever a visionary was worthy of a lifetime achievement award, that individual has to be Norman Lear. Not only did he change the face of American television but through his political activism and philanthropy, he set an example for all America.

It’s not every day that you meet not one but two true entertainment legends. We had just that chance when we spoke to Norman Lear whose shows have collectively amassed 38 Nominations and 11 Golden Globes and Rita Moreno, herself thrice nominated and a Globe winner for West Side Story – the role which would also make her the first Latina actress to earn an Academy Award.

TV Game Changers Panel: Full Video. The HFPA hosted a 75th Anniversary panel at the Paley Center for Media with Golden Globe-winning show runners who have pushed the limits of the medium.

As part of the special events to celebrate this year’s 75th anniversary of the Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hosted a special panel of Golden Globe-Winning TV Game Changers at The Paley Center for Media. The panel included Norman Lear whose shows, in a career spanning six decades, have won 10 Golden Globes and racked up 55 nominations.
