Reform Plan 2021

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the selection of its 2021 incoming class of new members, the largest and most diverse in its 78-year history. The incoming class caps a six-month-long reform process that has transformed the way the Association operates through five key areas of focus: Accountability, Membership, Inclusion, Good Governance, and Transparency.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced that five distinguished outside journalism professionals have joined its Credentials Committee to screen and select new Association members — one of the most important steps of their comprehensive reform plan announced in May. Appointed to the nine-member Credentials Committee to help select new members to join the HFPA are: Tre'Vell Anderson, Terry Anzur, Bel Hernandez, Toni Moston, and Dr.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Monday continued its transformation into a reimagined organization with the appointment of three external advisors who will select the group tasked with reviewing new member applicants in the coming weeks. “The creation of an Advisory Board comprised primarily of outside professionals is intended to provide an independent voice in our new member selection process starting with the selection process of the members of the Credentials Committee,” said HFPA President Helen Hoehne.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) today announced the selection for the first time of three non-members to the Board of Directors responsible for overseeing the ongoing reform plan to restructure the organization along the lines of accountability, ethics, and greater inclusion of the diversity of world journalism. This new Board includes 15 total directors – 12 active members and three non-members.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) today elected German journalist Helen Hoehne as the Association’s president, leading its expanded Board of Directors. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced new eligibility guidelines for future Golden Globe Award shows and events, recognizing the diversity of excellence in the world by elevating foreign language films as candidates for its top award.   Every year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association examines its Golden Globes guidelines, considering new ways to celebrate connections of culture through film, television, and streaming platforms.

The HFPA’s progress towards reform is continuing, as this week we have put more key pieces in place that will help lead the transformational changes that we promised less than a month ago. We said on May 6th that we would move swiftly to show our commitment to reform and that we would regularly update the industry on our progress.

As we work to fully implement the reforms the HFPA has committed to, we will update this website with all changes as they are adopted. On Thursday, May 20, the members of the HFPA overwhelmingly approved a Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct, setting forth the values, expectations, and standards of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that are essential to achieving our shared mission and goals.

As we work to fully implement the reforms the HFPA has committed to, we will update this website with all changes as they are adopted. On Wednesday, May 19, the Association signed a contract with Convercent, a company that manages the world’s most complex and advanced global ethics programs, to establish a system allowing anyone – inside or outside of the organization – to report any complaints of misconduct by the HFPA or its members on an anonymous basis.
