A long weekend – Monday was a holiday in some of the German-speaking countries – and beautiful weather contributed to barely any change in the charts. Top Gun: Maverick ruled the cinematic skies again in its second week.

Top Gun: Maverick flew past $500 million globally. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit $900 million worldwide.

Top Gun: Maverick broke box office records in Taiwan, taking in $3. 4 million in its opening week, according to NBC news.

Top Gun: Maverick arrived directly to number 1 at the box office in France. Directed by Joseph Kosinski with Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly, this sequel is about Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who continues to push his limits as a test pilot and in charge of training a detachment of young graduates from the Top Gun school for a special mission that no pilot would have ever imagined.

Its first official week outdid even better than expectations. Top Gun: Maverick, out in Italy since March 25th, already raked in over 4 million euros: 4.

Tom Cruise was the top gun during the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Top Gun: Maverick flew high in the box office stratosphere, becoming the biggest Memorial Day opening in history and the biggest bow in the actor’s career.

As expected, there was no stopping the Top Gun sequel's steep blastoff: it broke the speed barrier all over the world, and the German-speaking countries were no exception. After a more or less stagnant four weeks in the German charts, there were lots of shake-ups this last weekend, most coming from domestic films.

As stated last week, Italy's box office revenues, with the summer on its way, rely solely on blockbuster movies. A trend that has been confirmed with the highly-anticipated Top Gun: Maverick, which premiered on May 21 and 22 in The Space movie theaters.

Tom Cruise has not been to the Cannes fest since 1992 – but the long-awaited sequel to one of his biggest hits was reason enough to make a strong landing on the Croisette. Our HFPA reporter team Earl Gibson, Aniko Navai and Scott Orlin caught up with the stars on the red carpet, who were all on hand to promote the takeoff of a film that is bound to excite worldwide audiences in the weeks to come.
