Originally published March 6, 2023   Historically, winners of the Golden Globe Awards have long been an essential precursor to the Academy Awards. Winning a Globe is a critical component in shaping the conversation around which films, performances, and filmmakers are likely to be successful during the award season, and winners generate momentum and increase buzz around the likelihood of an impending Oscar.

Yong Chavez, a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, has won the International Media Award at the 60th Annual ICG Publicists Awards honoring her excellent work as an international journalist for ABS-CBN News (Philippines).  This award is given to journalists who cover entertainment internationally.

Giancarlo Giannini, the legendary Italian film star, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on March 6, 2023. The ceremony was held in front of a large crowd of fans who came out to show their appreciation for Giannini's remarkable career.

“As a 52-year-old woman who’s been living in New York and writing comedy for 30 years, there aren’t too many rooms anymore where I feel like a charlatan and a failure, but we found one! It’s tonight! I am vibrating with the energy of a person who’s afraid that the next thing she says will reveal her idiocy!” These were the words of actress, comedian, writer, producer, and playwright Tina Fey, as part of her acceptance speech of the PEN/Mike Nichols Writing for Performance Award last Thursday in New York City. The ceremony took place in a Broadway theater (The Town Hall), not far from Rockefeller Center, the setting of her hit comedy 30 Rock (2006-2013), created by Fey based on her experiences as head writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL).

ABC’s highly celebrated show Abbott Elementary and Marvel’s billion-dollar box office hit Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominated the 54th NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Abbott Elementary won five awards while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever took home four at the ceremony.

Leading up to the 54th Image Awards Ceremony taking place live on Saturday, February 25, and hosted by Golden Globe winner Queen Latifah, the NAACP has been holding a range of week-long activities in Los Angeles, including four virtual awards nights celebrating the best in film, television, literature, animation, and music. Being globally recognized as one of the most distinguished multicultural awards show, the NAACP Image Awards has been following its tradition of excellence, uplifting values that inspire equality, justice, and progressive change, and highlighting artists committed to that purpose, for over half of the century.
