Thor: Love and Thunder is again number 1 at the box office in France. Directed by Taika Waititi with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale, the movie is about Thor fighting Gorr the God Butcher who intends to make the gods extinct.

As everybody waits to board Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train next weekend, it was an unexceptional period at the box office. DC League of Super-Pets, an animation action-adventure with a voice cast led by Dwayne Johnson (Krypto, canine pal of Superman, voiced by John Krasinski) and Kevin Hart (Ace, one of the shelter pets who also have superpowers), opened on top with a very pet-friendly $23 million.

Exciting it is not. Germany’s summer box office is about as sluggish as the – otherwise big number of – movie fans that are baking in the sun instead of flocking to the theaters.

A new release, Chinese sci-fi comedy Moon Man, skyrocketed to the top of the box office after it opened this weekend, also showing on IMAX. Its presales had been off the charts – 100 million yuan - by Thursday, the biggest of the summer season according to Lighthouse, the entertainment data company.

Nope was dope at the box office. With the Daniel Kaluuya-led horror/mystery/sci-fi debuting at the top, all three Jordan Peele movies, including Get Out and Us, bowed at number one.

While Thor-Love and Thunder stands alone - and afar- at the top of the Italian box office ranking for another week, one question arises: will domestic productions gain decent revenues in theaters? It appears that in Italy's hottest summer ever, festivals are the only occasions in which moviegoers enjoy watching Italian movies: films are made for a broader audience than the ones limited to occasional venues. But that's not happening in Italy.

The Minions are ruling again. Germany’s and Austria’s summer box office defies all logic, and insane heatwaves are only partly to blame.

As cinemas across China continue to open despite sporadic Covid-related lockdowns in certain areas, the box office grosses have rebounded with local releases and a little help from Hollywood, specifically Jurassic World: Dominion which is the only US film on the top ten list, coming in at No. 4 this weekend.
