To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Outfest, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious LGBTQ+ film festivals, turned to Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner (and Golden Globe nominee) Billy Porter to kick off the ruby anniversary of the cinematic showcase. How apropos that that gemstone’s dazzling deep red hue is the perfect symbol of not only burning love, which seemed to fill the air at L.

The 56th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) took place from July 1 - 9, 2022, ending on Saturday evening with a Closing Night ceremony at the Grand Hall of the spa town’s Hotel Thermal.  Although canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, with a scaled-down physical event taking place in 2021, the Festival returned on a grand scale, bigger and better than ever.

One thing is for certain: programmers at the Bologna Film Festival are equal opportunity film lovers. Cinema Ritrovato – the official name of this yearly celebration of cinema classics – is nothing if not eclectic.

Guadalajara International Film Festival June 2022 With gender politics raging while women artists and professionals struggle to secure equitable footing in the world, female-driven stories continue to enrich global cinema. Flávia Neves and Marianna Bastos are two new Brazilian filmmakers who dare to challenge a history of oppression and whose films competed in the Ibero-American Features section at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

The Bolivian film Utama by director Alejandro Loayza Grisi won the award for Best First Work, Best Screenplay, and the Jorge Cámara Hollywood Foreign Press Association Award, which honors the late former president of the HFPA, at the 37th Guadalajara International Film Festival (GIFF), one of the most important festivals in Latin America. Cámara, a three-time president of the HFPA, passionately collaborated with the film festival held annually in Mexico.

With as much pomp and circumstance as befits a film festival whose Honorary President is His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the red-carpet event at the Salle des Princes in the Grimaldi Forum to hand out the closing night Golden Nymph awards was packed with stars and surprises. Fashion Reimagined, Becky Hutner’s documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival, follows sustainable fashion designer Amy Powney on her journey to create beautiful clothes while at the same time saving the environment. Winner of the Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, Powney, who lived and grew up in a one-bedroom caravan she shared with her sister and her environmental activist parents, began the #FashionTheFuture campaign where she encourages people to rent, recycle, and repair clothes instead of buying dresses all the time.
