80th Golden Globes: ’90s Fashion – Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio
The ’90s gave us Ben Affleck and Matt Damon – as writers – for Goodwill Hunting, Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, and Angelina Jolie burst on the scene in Gia. James Cameron‘s Titanic cemented Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet into movie legends. Angela Bassett channeled Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It. The world got familiar with seeing Don Cheadle march down the red carpet for critically acclaimed performances. Edward James Olmos cemented his 80s success with another win for The Burning Season and television was enjoying great comedy with shows like Seinfeld and Cheers.
But what was going on in Fashion?
Grunge, scrunchies, and wide-legged pants were the street style.
The ’90s Golden Globes Red Carpet was glamorous in a way that blended the magic of Hollywood with the best of the decades’ trends.
A casual glance shows how fashion changed through the decade. From the oversized shoulders of Julia Robert’s suit and the ‘big hair’ left over from the ’80s to the smooth natural look and sleeker form-fitting dresses of the ’90s.
Minis were in from the evenings. Good tailoring was too. Brown-toned, earthy make-up was the choice. Glossy hair replaced the big do. The message was: Natural! Healthy!
Excess is over.
