Fashion: Flesh, Flounces and Black

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Maisie Williams, Taylor Russell

The Independent Spirit Awards lends itself to a more relaxed red carpet – or in this case – blue carpet, but nonetheless stunning. Cate Blanchett wore a suit she first appeared in back in 2018, a trend celebs are moving towards as fashion becomes more environmentally conscious.

Red carpet fashion showed flesh. In a sophisticated way that exposed legs, tummy and shoulders.

There were bandannas and bleached eyebrows. Men wore sea foam, plaid and stripes. Women wore feathers, flounces and black.

There was no cohesion. They wore what they wore and they looked good wearing it. While over in Paris, celebs came out to support their fav fashion designers, wearing looks we saw on the runway last October but made their own. We see you, Maisie Williams.

Scroll through. What would you wear? What do you like?

Taylor Russell in an intricate gown by Loewe. Are those cuffs on her hips or open pockets? Whatever. We like it. The exposed midriff and blunt cut hair notch the look up to sublime. Note the lightened eyebrow.

Jodie Turner-Smith has set the bar so high with her red carpet moments and she doesn’t disappoint – Elie Saab.

Danielle Deadwyler: This look by Chanel is exquisite. The traditional silhouette with tantalizing feathers in baby pink.

Below: Paul Mescal has been getting more adventurous as the award season has progressed – here in a chest baring vest and sea foam jacket. While Daniel Dae Kim takes the same color palette and into a more traditional double breasted suit and crisp white shirt. Both work.

Above: Note the shoulder padding. It’s a look that we can trace back to the 80s and it’s just so flattering. Aubrey Plaza (l) and Cate Blanchett (r).

Below: Mia Goth embraced the lightened eyebrow seasons ago. Here, the tint is slightly emphasized but she’s gone with a strong lash and rose mouth. Did you see Taylor Russell has joined the trend?

Above: Meanwhile Michelle Yeoh (l), goes with the hair trend shown by Zendaya last week. The hairstyle is side part swept into the illusion of a blunt cut with width at the cheek. Here, Michelle Yeoh does a more dramatic throwback to the 30s.
