Vogue has hailed four-time Golden Globe nominee Penélope Cruz, (Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime, Nine, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Volver) as the quintessential Karl Lagerfeld muse.

Dua Lipa, known for songs like “Sweetest Pie,” “Cold Heart” and “Levitating,” is a three-time Grammy winner, while actor Michaela Coel came to fame with TV’s I May Destroy You and the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Tennis champion Roger Federer, who has recently announced his retirement after winning multiple Grand Slam singles titles among other achievements, rounds out the international cast of names and is the sole male.

The gala will have an accompanying exhibit at the Met: “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The exhibit will showcase original sketches and over 150 looks, spanning the designer’s career from the 1950s through to his final collection, shown shortly after his death in 2019. The prolific designer was 85 when he died.

The official dress code for the Met will be “In Honor of Karl.”

Lagerfeld helmed some of the top fashion houses, including Chanel, Fendi, and Chloé – as well as producing his own namesake label.
